Aren't there places in L.A. for the homeless to go? There are, like the Union Rescue Mission, which will give you a place to stay if you are willing to sweep the pews. Most, of course, aren't. They'd rather sleep on the sidewalk.

I wonder why, as a nation, we can't create a better social net and housing services to assist people who find themselves in any number of the horrific situations that they tumble into. Their are as many stories as there are homeless. They are people with memories and feelings, and most of them are worthy of consideration. You obviously haven't spent time with these people, or with the people who try to help them. The "homeless" are not like you and me. They actually do want to live that way, and reject efforts to "help" them. The question is rather why we don't round these people up and put them in labor camps. I am one of the people who help them. I've donated service since I was a teenager. You should be ashamed of yourself.

You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm not. My own employer services the homeless, too. They're still people, but they live that way for a reason.

Why are you so hateful towards the unfortunate?

"servicing the homeless" sounds like a matter-of-fact, unemotional thing to do. I service my car; I don't service people. I've seen many businesses support charitable activities just for the feel-good factor. It's true "they live that way for a reason" but that's not the same as choosing that way of life. It's very easy to knock someone when they're down on their luck. Or you can choose to offer a helping hand so they can get back on their feet.

you can choose to offer a helping hand so they can get back on their feet. They are on their feet. That's the life they want. I was talking with one of them at a coin-op car wash this morning. He wasn't even panhandling. He just sat there under the bill changer, ebullient in his own filth and depravity.

Why are you so hateful towards the unfortunate? I don't hate them. I accept them, the way they are. Why don't you? They're not unfortunate. Just different.

Yes - usually because of bad luck or mental illness and lack of support. Their civil liberties are protected by state law. They are entitled to their mental illness, and the lifestyle accruing from it. The support has always been there. They don't want it.

Most of them are in pain. You accept them by ignoring them and/or condemning them to labor camps? "Condemning them?" What's wrong with working for your own room and board? It's good enough for the rest of us. Pain is part of life, particularly pain that is self-inflicted.

Something is wrong with you, I'm sorry to say. I've been called worse, but at least I provide for me and mine, and always have. Those that won't are what they are.

They don't have to pay rent for starters and be obliged to follow the rules of the landlord. We have the homeless here also and the Salvation Army who patrol the streets looking for them so that they can offer help, but they refuse. They don't want to be obliged to anyone, though they could be dependent on the Government who knows? Beggars even come on the trains looking for a hand out.

if they consider they are guests...then it would be quite rational to ask them to leave as they have outstayed their welcome Hi Mouse, I am with you on that observation. I am sure Mrs Merkel did not stipulate how long she was prepared to give them refuge. If the migrants can behave in that manner so can the Germans. You would think if they were made welcome they would jump at the chance to repay Germany's show of kindness by accepting the offer of work? It looks like they are not so stupid afterall. As the have the German Government 'over a barrel' without a doubt.!!!
