Thank you folks for your thoughts.
Normally I don’t give much consideration for any birthdays, but this one is a little different. Frankly I never thought I would get this far. Oh, there are members of the family who have gone farther in life, but I had what you might consider a misspent youth. I’ve done all sorts of things for which my body is now reminding me of with old scars and increasing creaks and groans. Even was declared dead twice.
But this year my wife and I are at this same place in life (that is, she is 8 months younger than I am) and have been together since we were 14. Now, except for my wife’s older sister, we have become the oldest ones in both family lines. In the news we are reminded that so many that were part of our younger years have, and are, passing. So too with others who have become personal friends. Casual talks seem to so often include discussing medical procedures.
All things considered we aren’t in too bad of shape.
In the years since our births (just before the U.S. entered World War II), the world has changed a lot. We have seen during our life time, the last of the Civil War Soldiers die, and now we are likely to be within 30 years of having someone walk on Mars. Libraries were that quiet places to access those wonderful books and now everyone has the knowledge of the world (past and present) at their finger-tips wherever they are. Labor of humans and horses were still a primary element in farming and today thousands of acres can be farmed with few people and horse are merely playthings. We are aware of the smallest of concepts (string theory) and yet see into the far distance of space (and time).
I can’t help but wonder though, with all we have gained in knowledge and capabilities, are we any wiser? Today people seem to be in their day to day contacts, little different that in my most distant memories.

Happy belated Birthday, Men an tol! I somehow missed this yesterday. It always amazes me to think of how time goes. The years from birth to 30 seem to move slowly. After that, they move along at a nice clip, neither fast or slow, until about 50. Then they start to move faster and beyond 60, they fly! The best we do is relax and find nice things to enjoy. I hope you had a nice day.
