""""He told the BBC that the UK needs to improve relations with the country, and one of the ways to do that is to have more dialogue."""
perhaps if the western powers stopped interfering in the affairs of others it would be a beginning I find it laughable that the Ukraine is pictures as a brave little country wanting democracy against the great big evil Russia when actuality is that Ukraine is as autocratic and undemocratic as Russia its self... why America must always stir the pot I simply don't know...have they learnt nothing at all ?? they feed monies and weapons etc and then act surprised when it turns round and bites them..and it always does.. its becoming obcessive and repetative just how many more times is this going to go on and when will the White House/CIA etc realise they make bad situations a thousand times worse..Irak..Afghanistan..Kurdistan..Egypt..Ireland etc etc
be interesting to see if we had an over throw of government..whose sides America would support....my betting is it wouldn't be on those who wanted a return to democracy and wanted out of the evil union

I'm not naive; my brother's wife's sister is Russian and he's firmly convinced that the trouble in the Ukraine is down to the Ukrainians and the West rather than Putin.
But there's no reasonable doubt that Putin IS trying to stir things up; he's gone on public record as saying that he doesn't recognise the unification of Germany, that he would 'like' to see the former USSR restored to its old frontiers; that he would 'like' to see countries like Poland part of his equivalent of the EU; and let's be honest, where but from Russia are the separatists getting their heavy weapons and missiles?
Russia IS a threat and we do need to be watchful.
Underestimating the enemy cost us dearly in the thirties when Franco and Hitler could both have been stopped at an early stage of their aggression if the West had shown resolute leadership.
