Been reading the odds and ends news stories off the main page. Robert Downey Jr and wife Susan have a new baby girl ... born on the 4th and named Avri Roel. They are elated and plan to continue with that sentiment indefinitely. So good to read something positive with no detractors. Chilly, rainy and windy here. This won't be an out door weekend.

I'm glad for you, too, mouse. Being out of commission in general is bad enough but it seems even worse in summer and at holiday time. Rejoice! Men an tol, I feel the same way. Everyone has pulled for RDJ but getting his life back was up to him in the end and he did it! Should mention, I got a text from Dex that he logged out without awarding KP for Music Quiz winners so I told him I'd do that. Should be up and done in about 2 minutes.

Years ago, almost eveyone either canned (put up) fruits and vegetables for the coming winter or received jars of corn, beans, apples, pears and peaches, not to mention tomatoes from friends and relatives who did the work. Quart jars of these things were wonderful to receive and made good gifts for folks who were hard to buy for. My parents had fruit trees as I was growing up. I can remember many a hot summer day, helping her in the even hotter kitchen as we put up jar after jar of sliced apples and peaches. Hard work for a little while, but the rewards of delicious apple dumplings and peach cobblers in the winter were worth the trouble.

Jessie, I'll bet your cooking skills come from your mom and the way you were reared. When I came along, the homemakers in my mother's group were all into casseroles and frozen veggies and bakery pies. I have managed to be a good cook in spite of that but almost never do it from scratch.

Victory gardens and people in general growing and preserving their own jams, jellies, fruits and vegetables. Later on, the modern appliances made food preparation easier and different. Lots of frozen desserts and casseroles, true. My parents loved bread pudding and meat, vegetables, dessert meals. Not one better than the other, just different.. So, yes, I tend to be an old fashioned cook with some new tricks up my sleeve.

Good morning everyone on this lovely Sat. Great day and to top it off out to a Thai Restaurant this afternoon. Everyone enjoy your weekend. Hi Joy. Very nice to see you. I have no doubt your weather is wonderful. We're having chilly wind, but going to make the most of the weekend anyway ... football on TV and buttered popcorn for snacks. Enjoy your dining experience!

we call it bottling over here rather than canning..i grew up with pantry full of bottle fruits..jam making ..preserving etc etc and in my younger days followed suit and my pantry too would be full of seasonal goodies..and I used my great grandmothers original brass preserving pan...[which is still some where tucked away] my daughter still does blackberry picking but now she freezes them and we have them as pies or with apple as crumble I adore bread and butter pudding..but no one else does..so now and again they have to suffer while I indulge my friend Kate always gives me a couple of her own bottled peaches and a bottle of her own brandy cream for Christmas alongside a choice of Christmas pud or cake but for the other goodies best place to buy is a church fayre and one where you know who the maker is] daughter is a good cook and cooks from scratch...and I am known for my very acceptable and light dumplings which we like served crispy on top...better stop as am drooling the rest of the family will arrive at various times today..its going to be hetic
yesterday it bucketed down all day...getting colder and it rained during the night..the sun is not to be seen

certainly gone colder..very overcast this morning and rained over night over traveling liberary is going to start coming just once a month and doing only one stop in the centre of the village...so at this end we shall be without the service..botheration and damn our services in England have been built up over decades and now..one by one they are going being taken away by councils and government who will not listen and who see savings around every corner..totally forgetting it is we the tax and council tax payer who pay for these services and who are getting less and less in return they off set the arguments for none continuation of these services by trying to justify the other things they provide..mostly new things which have no benefit and are not needed by long term families etc they prat on about their budget for diversity leaders..equality departments..housing needs which have increased..[but not by local need]and weird managers for departments which do not benefit the long standing people of the county..and then there are the schools..some of which shock horror are not diverse...and some villages don't have enough social or low cost housing... its all manipulation and hiding behind weasle words...and dancing to an agenda....bah humbug and piffle you can chalk it up to the eu and the imbecilic ideas behind it. take it away from the citizens to give to the aliens who benefit NO ONE. as bad as it is here, at least the overwhelming majority of wetbacks come here to work, and DO work. you, and the rest of europe, have just the opposite
