High court judge allows Michael Adebowale to appeal against his 45-year minimum term One of the men who murdered the soldier Lee Rigby has been given permission to appeal against his sentence. Michael Adebowale was convicted of murdering the young soldier in broad daylight in an attack staged with Michael Adebolajo on 22 May last year. A full appeal hearing in front of three judges will take place at a later date. Unlike Adebolajo, 29, he was spared a whole life term because of his age and lesser role in the attack. Adebolajo launched an appeal against his term in April. The pair showed no remorse for their actions throughout their Old Bailey trial, and erupted with rage during their sentencing hearing, causing security guards to bundle them down to the cells as Rigby's relatives looked on. The two men ran Rigby down in a car before hacking him to death in the street near Woolwich Barracks in south-east London. They both claimed that they were "soldiers of Allah" and were motivated by the plight of Muslims abroad to carry out the killing. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/jul/15/lee-rigby-killer-michael-adebowale-permission-appeal-sentenceIts all on video, FFS. As soldiers their conduct really merits the firing squad. Throw away the key

It's a shame the prison has to waste effort and money keeping them. But, under no circumstances should either of them win a reduced sentence. I'm surprised the court is not starting to wonder about their legal representatives. All things considered, one would think they'd discourage this kind of bold display.

They might tell him to jog on or even decide his sentence was unduly lenient and give him a bit longer:- sixthformlaw.info/01_modules/mod1/1_3_penal_system_2_powers/30_powers_appeals.htmThen again, this is the same barking bench that routinely allows anyone not of these isles or of a pale skin tone to remain free to roam the land re-offending and living off the sweat of the taxpayer instead of sending them packing for such spurious reasons as they have a cat or it's their right to leach off of the NHS, so... FFS, the state is not interfering with your right to a family life if, in deporting you, it does not impose a restriction on your family that prevents them leaving with you if they so wish so there's absolutely no reason to uphold these appeals. We're a sovereign state (let's set aside the rule of Brussels for the sake of argument) not an effing charity running a dosshouse, fercryinoutloud!

He's got a face that just shouts, "I should have been put down at birth," hasn't he? Quite frankly it would look much better smashed in by twelve bullets - and none of that nancy-boy 5.56x45NATO rubbish, either. Only proper 7.62x59, despatched from God's own bangstick, would be suitable to achieve the proper level of, er, justice.

I HAVE NEVER UBNDERSTOOD WHY A TRIAL WAS NEEDED IN THIS CASE...there was no possible doubt of guilt so why go through the farce of which there could only be one outcome and that is guilty and if they consider they are soldiers then perhaps a military prison should be their place..not a soft option as for a right to family life NO ONE is stopping anyone from having FAMILY LIFE..EXCEPT YOU THE CRIMINAL...AND NO ONE IS STOPPING ANY OVERSEAS CRIM,S FAMILY FROM JOINING HIM/THEM/HER

I think they are bending over backwards for no good reason, beth. How can such an appeal have any chance of success? Er, hang on this is the UK....

Well, I'm not a believer in the death penalty, but in this case I could make an exception. When will the authorities get it, they're running rings around the system

But it's still an open and shut case - thanks to their video evidence. The original trial should have stipulated that there could be no appeal

I did say "As soldiers their conduct really merits the firing squad. Throw away the key"
Meaning I can understand the sentiment but I still say lock them up
Moral high ground retained.

Maybe they'll increase the sentence to 50 years. Maybe he'll conclude Allah is NOT his friend. The whole thing's a farce.
