I like the Moody Blues. I was looking for I know you're out there somewhere which is a pretty decent song but the YouTube wasn't gonna let me. So, I've got this. An early Hollies live gig of Bus Stop and they're pretty good. The quality of the video is just great. Check out Clarke's dance in the middle - stove pipe pants and long, pointy shoes. It's so 60's ish.

Got me thinking about Neil Diamond who wrote some of the Monkees' songs. I like this one. It's a very young Neil.

OK so I'm in a 60's frame of mind at the moment. Just how much does 'Last Train to Clarksville' resemble 'Paperback Writer'?
McCartney's got a chipped tooth in this. I thought I was seeing things but nope. This clip is from '66. I'd forgotten just how young they were. I mean, these are guys in their mid 20's writing songs like this. And I hadn't realised before what a good bassist McCartney was.

Great sound, great look. The Motown ladies were fine.

This song was written by J Young and performed by Russell Morris. He had some huge hits and this was one of them.
I have no idea what the lyrics are about (although I reckon I could hazard a pretty good guess. Drugs maybe?) But I really like the melody and it's just so 60'sish. He looks like he could be off to a peace out or whatever they had back then. I think it's a pretty decent song.

I've just found out that there's a real MacArthur's Park and in it's in LA. Well, there you go. This was such a huge song in '68 and beyond. Recorded by Richard Harris. God knows why, but I think he was going to go into the film of 'Camelot' and I'm thinking maybe he did this to impress the people who counted? Jack Warner if I'm not mistaken. Probably am.
Apparently, this was supposed to be performed en masse. Can you imagine this with a full choir, orchestra and rock band? I wish someone would give it the full treatment. I don't pretend to understand all of the lyrics. The bit about the cake I've never got. I've always thought from 4:57 on when the tempo increases was the best part. Anyway, it's a great song and I like it.

So I'll continue with the M&P. Another terrific song. Featuring a young and beautiful Sharon Tate.
I think it's very appropriate. Sharon was an extremely beautiful woman. If she'd only stayed away from Hollywood, she might be a grandmother today.
Anyway, it's great harmony, just a great song.

And I wasn't sure whether to post this in C&W or here.
I figured here was more appropriate.

From '66. Another Australian band, The Twilights, with their cover of Needle in a Haystack.
The lead singer is Glenn Shorrock, who went on to front Little River Band.
The vid is a shocker but the audio is great.

Another classic Monkees song. Written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart.
Louie Shelton laid the guitar track on the record. I think it's just a great song. They also wrote Last Train to Clarksville. Sure, it's a rip off of the Beatles style but it's still a great song.
Anyway, if you like 60's music, enjoy.

Wow, jim that Jefferson Airplane you posted was freaky. What mushrooms did you guys sleep on! I know you like the Stones. I know this has to be from the 60's because Jones is alive. Did you know, towards the end before they kicked him out, they'd unplug his guitar from the amp so he'd think he was still playing. Now Jones is a really sad story of the 60's gone totally wrong. Anyway, enjoy the song.

It's been a long time since I heard that one. It's good.
Back to The Monkees.
Oh yeah.
