The Co-op declares war on 'harmful' lads' mags: Supermarket insist on 'modesty covers' for its shelves Retailer has issued ultimatum to publishers of 'lads mags' Parents say children can see 'near-pornographic' covers Co-op already places the magazines behind a black screen Magazines which feature scantily-clad models on their covers will not be sold by the Co-op unless they are packed in protective ‘modesty covers’. The move comes after parents complained they had to cover their children’s eyes as they walked past the near-pornographic covers in the magazine aisle. The Co-operative has already started placing the offending covers on the top shelves behind black screens. The Co-operative Group already covers up 'lads' magazines but has told publishers to seal them in 'modesty bags' The supermarket chain has now given an ultimatum to so-called lads’ mags, such as Zoo, Nuts, Loaded and Front, saying they have until September 9 to deliver them in pre-sealed bags or face having them removed from its 4,000 outlets. Senior politicians are also calling on other retailers to follow suit.
