in the 21st Century.
Theft Physical Harm Mental/Emotional Anguish Slander/Libel Animal Cruelty
Then a whole line up of sexual taboos ..
(Not homosexuality, anymore, in spite of the fact that many people still think so)
but
Rape Pedophilia Beastiality Necrophilia Prostitution (less but still enough to see the taboo in most of society) Pornography (ditto)
I don't see much possibility any of these will have the approval of main stream society in the near or distant future. Can't imagine anything that would bring that about.

I doubt pornography is still on the moral taboos list...if it is then theres a lot of hypocracy knocking about..in fact pornography is rampant...there is the matter of degree though when it comes to pornography
the same could be said for prostitution..it again is a matter of degree
sadly Pedophilia is not the taboo it was and is rampant.....the three mentioned are all alive and going strong..the only taboo is owning up to interest or action rather than any moral limmitations
considering the numbers of people who visit porn and pedo sites and considering the numbers of children who are abused etc .....and if people were honest then the approval is there but just not spoken about

Porn is still a social taboo (at least) in middle America. Ditto prostitution. Both considered moral taboos through the churches which still seild a LOT of influence here.
Pedophilia is a crime, so that translates to taboos both moral and social. People who consider it less than deeply wrong don't flaunt that attitude for the most part.
The RCC still has at least moderate influence in the U.S. and while they've lightened up somewhat, they still wave the 7 deadly sins like a flag.

Pedophilia is a crime, so that translates to taboos both moral and social""" its of course a crime here as well...but the numbers of viewers to child porn sites etc are huge....[one reason the sites flourish and there is opposition to blocks is that porn and child porn make money]...and who cares about morals when theres money to be made regardless of human or societal cost so morally many are lying through their teeth when they say such activities are wrong etc because actions..hits etc prove otherwise

Well of course. Who would deny that? This isn't about what's right or wrong, or what I believe is right, it's about the things society or elements there of .. accept or don't.
Whether or not porn is right, wrong or neutral, would the people who visit your home be offended by Hustler and Playboy on the end table or by Debbie Does Dallas in your dvd player? Would you take care to remove things like that and put them away before guests drop by? That's a key to whether they're still a taboo. Likewise, would you have child porn photographs out and about? Would you introduce a date as your female (or male) escort (or 50$ hooker)?
Just because many people have these things in their lives does not mean they are no longer taboo.

Child porn is out there but there isn't much money in it. You can't use a credit card to acquire it, because those transactions can be traced. Again, where is the proof? Otherwise it's just an urban myth.

Just a polite way of saying a cheap 'ho', Joseph. I know a woman who ordered one for her son on his 16th birthday. She's not the brightest human being. It really embarrassed him. I think he was still collecting comics at that point.

You mean you think the majority of people approve of pornography, pedophilia and prostitution and lie about it?
Why do they bother to lie? Could it be because those things are still "taboo" in our society?
The thing is "taboo" doesn't mean right or wrong, just not acceptable for the most part. Kind of like speaking to people on the bus or disparaging Princess Diana, over there.

then all I can say is you have led a very sheltered life Not exactly. I used to work in the porn business, first for EWAP, then for VCA Labs, Inc. and later for Larry Flynt Publications. I challenge anyone here to find kid porn anywhere. .........its no myth that there are some very sickening stuff out there...and for every photo there is an abused child..many ruined for life mentally and physically...have a chat to child protection officers.....have a chat to those whose job it is to try and get the child porn lovers into court and criminalised and arresting those who have not hundreds but thousand of stomach churning evidence So no proof, then. but you contradict your self first its a myth and then you say one has to use ones credit card......make your mind up....just how much evidence do you need as there have been case after case of roundups of sickos Again, I know the porn business. There is commercial value in thousands of different categories of porn (yes, thousands), but none for kid porn. Whatever market exists is very deep underground and doesn't involve credit card transactions. There are a handful of kid porn cases, sure (e.g. Gary Glitter) but the issue is extremely overblown. I submit it is far easier to hook up with a minor for real sex than to find a photo of same using a standard web browser.

Of course they are taboo. Obvious. "Men's magazines" are even sold under the counter.
When the day comes pedophilia is not taboo, our society will be on the verge of collapse.
