What impact would you most like to make on the world during your lifetime? (This one may require a little deep thought.)

That's admirable, mouse. I think you've surely succeeded to this point and set a standard that will continue.
I don't aspire to cut a very big swath. Just keep the love of the people who have cared for me and leave a smile with most who have known me. It would be nice to hope for all around respect and understanding but I'll settle for the love and smiles.

like you I have no fantastic aspirations on leaving a legacy....and like you again.... when I leave this earthly realm I hope people will smile and be happy rather than relieved and thankful my children have turned out to be thoughtful and to have inquiring minds never just accepting things as they are..they also have good senses of humour and know right from wrong and above all.. are kind human beings ....the grandchildren also are progressing nicely as decent human beings too[with the odd blip of growing up angst] and it is largely through our children and friends that we leave our greatest impact..not through things we aquire or bank balances

I don't think most of us can make much impact as individuals. Hopefully we can be part of a growing process towards greater tolerance, compassion and freedom but individually we can't do that much.
The internet has at least helped us all communicate more easily on a worldwide level.

My hope is that a few of my students have been influenced by me to develop a love of literature and a good, positive attitude toward education. Also, that my family members remember the best of times together with affection and happy hearts.

The internet has at least helped us all communicate more easily on a worldwide level. Good point. We can, however, have an influence on the people in our lives over the years ... even when the contact doesn't last life long. Then, they influence others (sometimes based on things we pass along ... and the chain goes on. When we use these threads (yours and mine and others), some of what we say touches others ... for better or worse ... and a new chain is created. Things my grandmama taught me, which is why this site is named for her view of life as a tapestry. As well, your point about being part of a move toward change or any particular philosophy is true as well. Then, we're one of the threads that pulls things forward .. sometimes very slowly, and yet, it moves. Something kind of awesome to be aware of, imo.
