I remember doing the tourist bit at Williamsburg a few years ago. If condemned to death, you got 10 days to 'put your affairs in order', then were taken outside the town to the gallows whilst sitting on your own coffin...
They didn't muck about back then...

Don't ever expect to see *that* again. Even though we still kill people, we're humane.

I'm just sick of the debate over it all......either yes or no. If the state has the penalty....than put your big boy pants on and carry it out or don't have it. [/quote][/blockquote] Sadie, that is exactly what needs to be done For California, I see so many of these guys that I have a front row seat the rest of you don't have

Don't they deserve the ultimate penalty for this?

There is a good deal more than the Atlantic between us.

Indeed, Fret.
What I never can get a handle on is a comparison between what we (the people) choose with what murderers choose. If we're killing them for murderering (and we must do since NO other crime brings a death sentence) why do we think some are more evil (thus worthy of death doling) than other murderers.

I can only guess its purely subjective. The press and media hype could, in theory, make all the difference to the sentence.
I still favour locking them up and losing the key.

As do I, Fret, even though technically, I'm an American . I think the want to kill them gives them way more attention than they deserve.

It puts everyone on the same level as the killer. The state loses the moral high ground. Technically an American?

I don't know that you can look at in those black and white terms, Fret,
As a wowie I'm used to getting flak from both sides.
Because I don't want to execute all people who've been convicted of murder I get called a bleeding heart wishy-washy soft on crime type by fry circus pros.
Because I want to execute the likes of Sutcliffe, Ramirez, Pike et al I get called a bloodthirsty cruel-hearted bitch pro by sizzle circus antis.
Sometimes you just can't win!
It reminds me of an American liberal who said:
'If you're a liberal you get called left-wing by the right, right-wing by the left and a fink by everyone!'

How can you possibly say that it is right to execute some - by some spurious and as yet undefined criteria, and not others, Lin? You seem confused, a principle is a principle, your mode of thinking leads you to conclude that it is black and white. Once you permit the death penalty you are on a slippery slope, I say leave the reactionary emotions at the door.
