It's been a while since I put up some pics, so here's this morning's offerings as we came past Grimsby...

Is it really as peaceful looking as they seem?

Grimsby! come on mark I know you must have been to more exotic places than Grimsby.
I'm not sure If I bored you with this story before, but I used to know a chap in the Merchant Navy, younger than me, a bright go getter if you know what I mean. Anyway he soon discovered he didn't like the life. He was flown out to Japan to meet his ship, and sailed (So to speak) to Australia. I suspect that sounds idyllic to the uninitiated, however he said the closest he got to Australia was looking at it through binoculars while at the end of a very long pier, I think he was on a gas carrier. Anyway he got disillusioned very quickly and left after less than a year, which I thought was a real shame he never really gave it a chance imo. Perhaps I shouldn't do this but I'll tell you what he did after leaving the Merchant Navy, he went from deck officer (I think he was something to do with navigation) to the manager of a food distribution warehouse! In my opinion he was a bloody fool, a clever chap but a bloody fool and I told him so. Mind you, if saw his wife you might understand why he wanted to be at home!

Yes, but Grimsby was the first place I passed this year, on the way up to Immingham, & the sunrise was pretty I hadn't heard that story of yours before, but it's one that I've heard variations of many times. It's sometimes referred to as the 'hairy lassoo'... As for being on the end of a long jetty - yep, been there, done that...

Is it really as peaceful looking as they seem? It was, that morning! Note the seagull (aka shitehawk ) in the shot

This was this evening's sunset, taken from my cabin's forward facing window and looking towards the Forth Bridges Sadly it loses a lot of effect on a MB - looks good on a 23" monitor though
