We used to be able to indentify and remove people from society who were displaying unstable or violent tendancies......we no longer do that because we are afraid of violating their civil liberties so the rest of us lose our liberties.
It is horrifying that someone choose a elementary school but should we be surprised? It was only a matter of time before this happened.
In order to prevent these type of things happening in the future, we will give up some more freedoms to the government

'If people give up freedom for the sake of security then they deserve neither'? Something like that. We have, on this side of the pond... ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

I'm reading in the news that the mother of the sandy hook shooter, was aware he was degrading mentally so why all the guns in a house with someone who isn't responding well.
Another case of irresponsible gun owner who gave access to someone not fit to walk a dog.

5 guns and one was a semi automatic weapon.... why would a private citizen need a gun like that?
Or any gun .... but I know Americans have the right to bear arms.

Another case of irresponsible gun owner who gave access to someone not fit to walk a dog. Yet she was also a (presumably qualified) teacher in an elementary school. So the question is, did she really not give a tinker's about her own son?

I have no problem with handguns....it's the assault weapons that make me wonder why someone would have one in their home. I can understand hunting rifles We grew up with hunting rifles and 22's but they were for a specific task and we kept our hands off of them

Lets keep a little perspective, there were no military assault weapons at these killings in Newtown. Yes, there were semiautomatics but this is not a military weapon. Yes, there was one that had the appearance of a military weapon but appearance doesn't make it a military weapon.
There is much being talked about based on verbal meanderings of media talking heads, however, the only singular source of facts is the authorities and they have released very little. In time they will provide solid facts (such as they are) but until then all else is simply so much hot air.
Lets at least see these children memorialized and buried before we turn on one another with the words of our personal agendas.

What a despicable suggestion, mouse.
It's amazing how you can lecture about the sanctity of freedom while, in the same breath, advocate taking away the freedom of others.

No citizen needs a high capacity magazine.

What a despicable suggestion, mouse. It's amazing how you can lecture about the sanctity of freedom while, in the same breath, advocate taking away the freedom of others. I think that this is the sort of person in question, if you follow the thread... www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2254024/New-York-City-subway-murder-Man-pushed-death-train-woman-fled-platform.htmlWe have the same sort of thing over here - most folk who are suffering some form of mental illness are harmless, but you get the crazies, who do something like this, or go & shoot up a school... The problem is that the pendulum has swung too far, from incarcerating folk for their own protection, to allowing everyone loose. It's a difficult one to resolve, but as Mr Spock said:- "Sometimes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one"... The question is, who should decide who is safe to be allowed to do their own thing, and who is not? Remember too, that it might be your 'right' to be at liberty, but 'with rights come responsibilities'. That's the kicker.

It's the only "right" that allows one citizen to infringe on all of the rights of another citizen.

What a despicable suggestion, mouse. It's amazing how you can lecture about the sanctity of freedom while, in the same breath, advocate taking away the freedom of others. if you say so...but the rights of the majority is the very basis of democracy and it is hardly despicable...to think or to hold that mentally ill should be incarcerated it would be better for them and better for the rest of society lets take societies rights first.....time after time mentally sick people have committed crimes on innocent people...wether pushing them off platforms or shooting of school children etc etc i dont need to go through the list which is endless the rights of the mentally disabled/sick etc etc there was a time when these people were kept in large institutions...some better than others i agree but many of those institutions were enclosed societies to some extent self sufficient and above all safe....where the inmates could live not suffering at the hands of yobs,,perverts etc etc..they grew their own food,,,had pleasant gardens etc their families could visit[suprising how many families never visited though] care in the community doesnt work for many of the mentally sick take alex for example..alex never stops playing with himself...he wanks from getting up in the morning to going to bed..he is a danger to any female who he will try to get hold of when ever the fancy takes him.. he is a large young man..strong as an ox and lives with his 60 plus mother ..she cannot take him out and so she has had a life sentence of misery and lonliness...the one thing alex loves is gardening and watching birds... if his mother isnt watching he will stand in the window wanking...much to the delight of the local scrotes...who egg him on or throw stones...he would be much better away from society not long ago an other mentally impaired but harmless man was driven to heart attack by the local youths or how about the girls...many of whom are abused for sex and other little games perverts play..some getting pregnant..how do you talk some one with the iq of a goldfish through labour? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ? and what do you do with the baby???which is quite often mentally challenged as welll i am not sugesting the roumanian type institutions but the type of self contained institutions...safer for every one it isnt despicable to challange the rightons and the liberalista on these societal problems..which in many cases they havent a clue as to the realities....its like this right to life at any price of dreadfully damaged babies many born premeature..and who parents say must be kept alive[understandable to some extent] who forget that babies grow and that a damaged babe grows into a damaged adult,,some times an uncontrolable damaged adult who still has to have nappies changed be spoon fed etc it isnt as simplistic as throwing out words like despicable..words are the easy part...looking after them is the reality of the every day hard slog
