I didn't miss the point, Akamai.
My counterpoint is that you will NOT, ever, get guns away from gangbangers. It just isn't going to happen - no matter WHAT laws you put out there for honest people.
When I was a kid, I lived out in a country village where all my friends had guns. My stepmother was a New England prude, didn't believe in guns, and wouldn't let me have one.
So - between the ages of ten and 15 - I made about a half dozen WORKING firearms, using simple hand tools.
And I'll guarantee you that if I could do it - others can, will, and DO.

Lewis, It would be impossible to confiscate ALL of the guns, but you can confiscate MOST. They did it in Japan, and although there are some non-military, non-police guns in their society, it is very, very rare. Needless to say, Japan has the lowest gun related homicide rate of any country on this planet with a population of more than 30 million, while Japan has a population of almost 130 million with a very high population density. Of course, you cannot remove all the guns from our gangs, but we can get rid of most. The solution is simple. Before trying buy outs and confiscation, the first thing to do, is to have very stiff, mandatory sentencing for illegal gun ownership and usage. The other thing to do, is to have mandatory, stiffer sentences for drug related crimes. Even that, would really be a violation of our Constitution, which has been repealed and amended anyway. Akamai
