"or taken to war on an out and out lie" - didn't George Bush do that with Iraq and weapons of mass destruction? Bad intel led us into war with Iraw. That Saddam Hussein had used WMDs was never disputed. The only problem was we couldn't find where he stored them. Hindsight is 20/20. As brutal as he was, he did hold the country together. Brutality is the only thing those ragheads understand. well it may have been bad intel as far as America was concerned and the only reason it was known about any of Hussains weaponry such as he had was because it had been SOLD to him by the west he was NO threat to us or America.. no threat at all.. a very unpleasant and vicious man but NO threat via weaponry ... his only real power was oil and the need for oil.. exactly the same in Afghanistan oil pipes etc etc """Brutality is the only thing those ragheads understand""" not so what the west fails constantly to understand is that they have a very different culture than the west and the west really needs to stop trying to stop imposing its norms and cultures on to others[whether they are termed ragheads or not]...and it certainly needs to stop pretending its trying to bring democracy others ....if they do not want democracy why on earth should we be so arrogant as to force it on them they have their own cultures built over centuries .. we need to opt out and keep our noses out of the affairs of others the fact that you[and others] refer to them as rag heads or sand monkeys etc illustrates why we should not interfere in the affairs of others and should look very hard in our own backyards and ask WHY would we wish to export our culture ?some of which has nothing to recommend it

McCain came back in to vote with the Republicans and Capito (R, Wva) apparently decided to chicken out. That left the vote on whether to take up debate on repeal and replace, 50-50. Pence weighed in and debate won 50-51. This is one to watch for the coming week. The Senators want to take their vacation break. I don't know how much that will affect the way things go. Stay tuned. The Senators want to take their vacation break<sarc>The sheer hard work that politicians put in has never ceased to amaze me </sarc>

McCain made a really good speech yesterday. He asked that Republicans and Democrats come together to work out a health care program that is acceptable to both and leave the loud mouths out of it. Of course, that is not what Trump wants as he's bent on holding this up as a victory for him over the other side of the aisle. All this is unfolding now with debates going on. I'll take my popcorn as soon as it's ready. I'm off work for the day.

Here's how it stands this afternoon Repeal Only Measure Fails In Senate Majority leader McConnell's goal now is to get 50 Republicans to back a final bill -- whatever it looks likeThe Senate has defeated the so-called "repeal and delay" amendment which would roll back Obamacare without a replacement in place is defeated in the Senate. The vote was 45-55, with seven Republicans opposing the measure. The Senate's marathon debate to dismantle Obamacare has entered Day Two, with Republican senators continuing painstaking deliberations to reach an ultimate agreement on health care reform. The first order of business Wednesday afternoon was the full repeal amendment that Congress passed in 2015 and was vetoed by former President Barack Obama. Senators were initially scheduled to vote on the proposal around mid-day, but that plan was unexpectedly delayed until later in the afternoon. According to a Democratic aide, the holdup was over language in the amendment about Planned Parenthood, and whether it passed the so-called "Byrd Rule," which determines what language is permissible under the budget reconciliation process. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn described the snafu to reporters as a "kerfuffle" and said that there was a need to make "arguments to the parliamentarian." more here www.cnn.com/2017/07/26/politics/health-care-bill-wednesday/index.html

But Trump wants people to see him as a winner and that's all that means anything to him. He doesn't care who gets hurt in the process.
