I used to be against the death penalty but now am for it under certain circumstances....I just saw to many cruel killers enjoying new friends, wives and being supported with all kinds of goodies and people making excuses for them. It's the selective outrage that makes these murderers special to their supporters. One could argue that an automatic LWOP sentence, as exists in Michigan, would prevent murderer-worship, if that is really what bothers you. Hand-picking certain murderers, one for every 250, for death doesn't comport with my definition of American justice. LWOP would be great with tighter rules for contacting them.

The track record of American justice is so poor (how many people have been exonerated on the basis of DNA for example) that mentioning 'justice' and 'American' in the same phrase is more than an oxymoron; it is a complete contradiction in terms.
Americans routinely imprison innocent people for years (I have actually got a whole website where I have been posting on the Kirstin Lobato travesty for instance); they routinely send people to jail for victimless crimes; the prison industry has now become a way of getting round the abolition of slavery; and so on.
America is a disgrace to the world in its appalling 'justice' system which panders to populist rhetoric and delivers one of the most dangerous democracies in the world; its lip-service to freedom and yet its practice of incarceration, often without trial, for years; the inherent unfairness of the 'three strikes' law; the horrendous prevalence of rape, abuse and corruption within the prison system.
And so on and so on.
The only difference between the 'justice' system in America and the one in North Korea is that the Americans are more likely to give the accused an unfair trial while in Korea they just tend to kill them or lock them up without even that fig leaf of hypocrisy.
