Clarke gable was always supposed to be handsom...I could never see it my self..same with a lot of the stars..so many pretty boys but now and then would appear a really good looking chap..like rock Hudson who looked all man only to find he was homosexual and off the available list ...yule Brynner was a man who oozed sex appeal..terribly attractive yet not in an easy way..more ""this is a dangerously attractive man""...
beautiful men are few and far between..and I think Peter otoole in Lawrence of Arabia was possibly the best for a short time span

We all have our own conceptions of what we regard as beauty.
For me I would suggest the following ladies as exemplifying my own ideals. Some are in their prime and some not but of course the older ladies I visualise when they were in the full bloom of their beauty.
In no particular order:
Lucy Pargeter
Emma Atkins
Susan Sarandon
Cher
Greta Schacchi
Kate Winslet
Elizabeth Taylor
Dusty Springfield
Alison Moyet
Barbra Streisand
Natalie Portman
Dolly Parton
Emmylou Harris
Susan Hayward
Ida Lupino
Julie Christie
Sian Phillips

That's a nice list, Mike. Several different kinds of beauty right there. For instance, I think Susan Sarandon is very pretty and she has aged fairly well, too, but as classic beauty Julie Christie and Susan Hayward beat her a mile. I have a former sister in law who is gorgeous .. almost perfect facial symmetry and great bone structure ... but she is a narcissist and an all around unpleasant person so people are not very happy to see her coming ... beauty though she may be. Personally, I seem to lean toward something I can only describe as Jewish Beauty. Leonard Bernstein, Harriso0n Ford, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ben Stiller, Jeff Goldblum, ... even (maybe especially) Randy Newman. 3 or 4 years ago, I was in hospital for a few days for elective surgery. One of my doctor's associates was filling in fhr him that day and was there as I was taken back to my room. I was seriously looped on the exotic cocktail of anesthesia.but awake enough to talk (of course) and noted the physician waiting for the nurse to read my vitals. I said, "Hi Dr. ______________ . I always enjoy seeing you. You look just like a young Randy Newman." He laughed and said he certainly hoped that was a compliment. Then, just before he left he leaned over and whispered in my ear " ... but Beth .. I'm only a little bit Jewish". I said something like - "That's okay, it's the thought that counts." Anyway, you see what I mean. Those most attractive to us may not fall into the criteria of others.

Not sure about beautiful men. George Michael was pretty when he was young but not anymore. Paul Walker was very nice looking. Chris Hemsworth is, too. Do I have good taste or what? Chris Hemsworth has been picked as the "Sexiest Man Alive"! www.people.com/people/package/gallery/0,,20315920_20875086,00.html
