They may be called something else there but here they are called lifts. called "staircase lift" and looks like this.

stannah no use in this type of house/cottage...afriend had one in her place also built of stone and still having a stone roof..ended up having o put in a new stair case....due to all iregularaities we tend to not do ifting of houses,,what with foundations and so many old properties many are not the conventional square having been designed that way of having add ons over time plus of course the numbers of terraced and semi detached properties and the foundations of course..all too difficult the good thing with gardens is that a new house means a new garden to be got into shape plus sadly much of my gardening will have to come to an end my days of digging /lifting etc are now behind me as will be the bending planting and cutting back etc..my sons and grandsons will of course do the digging..mowing etc or can always get some one into do the hevey work and grass cutting etc although its not the same as getting down to it myself .....a bitter pill to swallow..but not the end of the world things will just have to be done an other way..i had already taken to sitting down and then bending from the chair to do the weeding so as i say..its not then of the world.. rather its a new challenge which has to be adapted too..the main problem wil be in curbing instinctive movements

I'd go with changing houses. That and a new garden to work with would pep you up, too. Give you a whole new outlook. Good luck with it.

beautiful morning here..blue sky and sunshine i got down stairs and sat for quarter of an hour...things are looking up.. daughter and i are discussing moving to either a bungalow or a propety where i can have a dowbstairs bedroom and loo etc..our options are very narrow as i really dont wish to move out of the village..so its talk at the moment..i swore i would never move again wouldn't a better option, if you could afford it, be putting a lift in the house? you have put an inordinate amount of time and care into your garden. it would be pretty hard starting all over again is there an option of adding a bedroom and bathroom downstairs without breaking the bank? I agree with Jim, there has to be a way to stay there

I agree with Jim, there has to be a way to stay there before i got hurt, i could do a 12x12 bedroom, and full bath, for about $5,000. of course, that was twenty plus years ago, and the price of lumber has doubled. i would think though, that it could be done for less than ten grand

The temperatures have been warmer today and are supposed to climb higher still tomorrow. But, on Tuesday, they'll plunge about 15 degrees and set us firmly back into fall.
Long weekend here, Columbus Day. Offices and some schools closed. Retail stores going full tilt with the traditional "Columbus Day Sales". It's been a rather busy, family-get-together kind of weekend, so I'm planning a quiet day tomorrow. Lots of leftover food stuffed into the fridge so I doubt I'll need to cook at all.
No matter your circumstances, grab Monday, shake it into shape and ...
have a good'un

Gotcha, but I'd happily take the 73 F, most of the time with a month of winter and a little more hot summer. Sounds a bit like Alabama or southern Georgia. I'll pass on Alabama but could manage GA on the coast, I think.
