I agree with Beth, the men like the control over the machine.....plain and simple as the nose on my face lol British women drive the same range of cars as the men so I guess we're all just a race of control freaks, eh? Absolutely - my missus doesn't like automatics at all - much prefers a proper gearbox...

I once knew a girl who once demonstrated precisely why she preferred a manual shift to an automatic - and it had nothing to do with vehicle control...

I suppose another advantage is that far from being five gears and a backwards idler over the three of an automatic, a lot of cars with larger engines and a manual box are coming with six gears (and a backwards, etc.) these days.
The more the merrier, after all - especially at sick squid a gallon!

Although that Smart I had had a 6 speed 'box too - but I see the new shape ones are only 5-speed...

Hmm, there's stories about that sort of thing - but, well, one did take 'em with a pinch of salt... ...opinion changed

I love my automatic and will continue to drive them.......I have no need for crunching or going fast anymore.......hit the open road and put it on cruise control and I'm happy; shifting in town is such an extra chore I agree with Beth, the men like the control over the machine.....plain and simple as the nose on my face lol If you hear someone sounding the horn to get a move on, that'll be me.... If you see someone in front of you giving you the finger, that will be me!!!!

I wonder why that model isn't offered in the U.S.; never heard of it and had to look it up, I liked the looks of it and it comes with an automatic!!!!

We've had ours for 2 1/2 years, but decided to keep it, rather than trade in

They offer the Nissan Rogue to the US market; same platform, different bodywork:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Qashqai#North_America

Often the Euro models are offered under a different name or under the brand of a subsidiary in the US. E.g. the Nissan Stanza is basically a Nissan Sunny with a different badge (and engine). Also, what was marketed in Europe as the Vauxhall/Opal Frontera was offered as the Isuzu Wizard or Amigo (depending on wheelbase) for the N. American market. Same vehicle, different name. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_Wizard

Behold the 2014 Callaway Corvette AeroWagon Concept There’s now yet another variant of the Corvette Stingray and it’s a two-door wagon shooting brake from the aftermarket Chevrolet customizers, Callaway. Called the 2014 Callaway AeroWagon Concept, the rendering shows what the C7 Corvette Stingray will look like after Callaway gets its hands on it. Callaway starts with a 2014 Stingray, chops the roof and adds a proprietary carbon addition that’s formed in one-step molding process called Kramer Resin Transfer Molding (KRTM). Callaway claims the Stingray shooting brake will be capable of speeds over 200 miles-per-hour and achieve what it calls “the highest mileage rating in the supercar segment.” Callaway hasn’t specified any engine upgrades yet to the stock 6.2-liter direct-injected V8 that produces 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque from the factory. Pricing for the AeroWagon upgrade has been pegged at no more than $15,000, which is a bargain considering the other high-performance shooting brake, the Ferrari FF, starts at $295,000. Buyers interested in the Callaway AeroWagon can look to their local Callaway dealer starting this fall right alongside the on-sale date of the Stingray. www.leftlanenews.com/behold-the-2014-callaway-corvette-aerowagon-concept.html#O865b8jEmCdBXmVO.99

In a way this is intrigung but in 10 others, it's just terribly wrong. Were they financially needy or was this a whim?

oh I don't know. It looks like a badass car to me. Hatchback didn't used to be sporty but that look is pretty popular now.
It's not as cool as the collector's editions but still good.
