The Governor has declared a state of emergency. All cars are to be off the road by 4:00 or else face steep fines. It's a blizzard!
(A blizzard is a heavy snow storm with strong sustained wind. It can cause "white out" conditions for drivers (all they see is a wall of white, cant see where they're driving). And the wind causes 'drifts' of snow to accumulate. ..A drift is a pile of windblown snow, 3 to 5 feet deep. I've seen the wind blow snow into cars, even though the windows were up. And I've seen an engine compartment packed with snow that got in from underneath. Roads can get hopelessly blocked by drifting snow. Front doors can be hard to get out of. One year a blizzard kept the roads closed for days and the National Guard had to come
All in all, it's nasty, because it's zero degrees C, and if have to go outside at all, you get the snow on you and it melts so you get wet and that doesn't help. I just actually walked a mile in it, but there's only 4 inches at this point. We're expecting way more...
If we lose the electricity, I could be offline for as long as 5 days (at the worst). But we're used to this stuff, and well prepared for it. I'll just be running my gas cooker for heat, listening to the radio and going through internet withdrawal is all. Lol. (Actually a power failure is a good time to clean the house and read. I also have a battery operated DVD player and emergency lighting.

The blizzard I mentioned looked like this... That's the front of someone's house: And this is a road: My car was missing for days I couldn't find it! it was entirely buried by snow!

Okay this is what you do to change your font. Go to any Quick Reply and from left to right choose what you want.
Then when you got that all sorted out, highlight and copy it.
Then go to PROFILE >> EDIT PROFILE >> SETTINGS >> THEN GO TO POSTING DEFAULT and make sure you click BBCODE.
Then a box will appear and you paste your font choices in that box then go down to the bottom and click SAVE ACCOUNT SETTINGS. And viola your done.
There after your choice will be set up in every Quick Reply and every BBCode Reply. I have font at size 2, font color e20c6a and BOLD.
Good Luck.
May the force be with you.........I think I've got it!!!!

income tax refund came in......paid off my son, put six months insurance on car and next week take it to get fixed and I can half assed drive again; have to be careful changing lanes to the left as eye is not corrected yet so will be very careful but one of my first stops will be the nursery at Lowe's and then Home Depot!!!!!
I haven't driven since 11/22 so it will be fun again rather than worrying about the damn bus and I can be more independant and find more places to walk

Driving always beats mass transport . Good for you, Chris! Good luck, Hunny. Having been in a few blizzards, I sympathize. Bet there's no bread, eggs or milk left in most of your markets!

Never leave me alone with my credit card and a bottle of barefoot red wine!!!! I ordered a Jack in the Pulpit, Trillium, wild yellow violets, goldenrod and dutchmens breeches plus a pussy willow, weeping willow, colorado blue spruce, douglas fir, giant sequoia, dawn redwood and got for free a red maple and two forsythias.......jesus, I haven't told my son yet and I know he is going to roll his eyes at me but I will find room for everyone and get some pots and dirt picked up in the next week or so. I can't visit Michigan so I'm bringing plants from my childhood to me.....I want some cowslips but can only find them for sale in the UK and not sure how well they would do in a bedroom even though there is lots of light.

Well, we haven't lost the lights, because a) the snow isnt wet and clinging heavily to the the tree branches causing them to fall on the wires, and b) no moron nearby me has driven stupidly fast and slid into a pole. There seems to be a foot and a half of snow out there so far (about 46 centimeters). But there are hours of snow yet to come. Predictions are for over 60 centimeters of snowfall total (2' +). Hopefully this isn't going to be as bad as the blizzard of 1978, in which my car got stranded, and it was 5 days before I could dig it out (or even find it to! ..it was totally buried. I had to walk along the side of the road poking holes in the snow bank, looking for it. We got 3-1/2 feet of snow in that storm. (107 centimeters). I remember all that was on the roads was snowmobiles, and we were all housebound for 5 days while road crews from three states and the national guard worked to clear the roads and put the lights back on (there was no power for 5 days). We had to shovel from the doorway of the house, out, to go anywhere - making paths through the deep snow that seemed more like tunnels!
Oh yikes, someone just came sliding around the corner and careened into the snow bank in front of my house. He seems to be ok, just majorly stuck. Apparently he decided to ignore the driving ban and this is what it resulted in for him.
I'd go help him but I haven't got enough strength to push an SUV out of a ditch.
...You know, years ago, we didnt have cell phones, and he'd be knocking on my door right now, and I'd be offering him coffee and some warmth, use of the phone. Let him wait indoors till help comes.
Well...it's only 5:00 AM here. Still dark out. When it gets light, I'll go lend him a shovel to use.
