with surgery there are always risks...but some times we have to weigh up and be sure the risks are worth the chance

I agree absolutely, mouse. Someone close to be is getting ready to have a procedure done and while I'm very apprehensive, I know she is doing the right thing. Such is life.

For this one, you're going to need to suspend reality and step into fantasy ... don't worry ... just for this thread . An entity, Thor, Odin, Osiris .. someone you don't exactly recognize but feel you should know ... comes to you and informs you (s)he has been given the responsibility of offering you 10 extra years of life. That's 10 more years added to the age at which you would have left your span of mortality and gone on to ... where ever. There's one catch (isn't there always) and it's serious. You will have to give up one of these precious human attributes: sight, hearing or speech. IOW, you will spend the last 10 years of your life blind, deaf or mute. You only have a few mintues to make the choice. Which would you pick and why? Easy-peasy. Thank Thor profusely and then tell him to go jump in the lake, extra 10 years? What for? Please take it with you and remember to close the door after you. However, if I needed the extra lifespan to help another being in need, I would choose speech.A no-brainer, really. Thanks for the exercise, Beth. Regards. Prashna

Thanks Prashna. You always do such a nice job getting us to look around the corner and down the lane (so to speak). Speech would be the obvious choice for me, too. I'd hate to miss all the nice input . I know deaf people and blind people as well. Must be soooo hard.

I'd keep what I've got.
In the scope of eternity, ten years are diddly. There comes a time when you realize that all you're doing, is waiting . . .
