So....is that what it comes down to? What defines friendship?
I believe I used to make friends very easily......but over time have become very guarded about who I let close to me. So while I might call them friends.....maybe that's not the correct term. I also do have people I call friends that I have known since childhood....that know many of my deep dark secrets....but yet I rarely see them or when I do....we have changed so much.....maybe "friends" is no longer our description.
And then again....the person I mentioned earlier.....been friends for over 20 years......and while we can still have many fun times.......she spends quite a bit of the time....complaining and telling ridiculous stories....that just seem to suck the life out of me.....to the point I have to take breaks from her. But I know.....if I called her in the middle of the night....or the reverse.....we would be there for each other........
So.....is it an issue of there are "degrees of Friendship"?

There are sometimes too many expectations. Not everyone we want to be friends with wants the same thing. It should soon be clear if things won't work out.
We all have imperfections, but I do not know of anyone who is that particular as long as there is a mutual bonding. If the bonding is not there, it is a mistake to try to force it.

Excellent points.
When we were growing up, many many many moons ago, I was friendly with many classmates, but friends with only a few kids. My sister thought that anyone she was friendly with was a friend. Looking back, it seems her friends came and went with any slight, while mine were kind of permanent, still, and always.

The old saying - "to have a friend, BE a friend". Maybe your friends were more permanent because you were.
