Nice thread, Annie. I'll have to give this one a little thought and promise to be back and post more, later.

the years when the common good mattered less than the individual demands ... the rise of the me me at the expence of freedom of speech and thought of the majority when history is foolishly judged by the norms of the of the moment[usually by those with very little historical knowledge of past times] when fake and lies were more acceptable than truth and reality and when some of the British people actually got their spines back and dogged resistence won a resounding NO ….to the combined forces of government... civil service the eu and the billion and millionaires.....battles won the war is not yet over.. the words snowflake and genderists became verbal description of people

People in the U. S. were still shell shocked by the 9/11/01 attacks and the continuing friendship of the Bush family with the Muslims. The Iraq war was pushed by the Neo-Cons and should not have happened. It finally wound down in this decade. This was the "Me Too" decade. Several powerful figures fell in the entertainment industry and women were able to have the last word in response to being sexually exploited by men.
Against all common sense, Donald Trump won the presidential election of 2016 and has been creating chaos in government ever sense.

Irak is far from wound down same goes for the whole area.... a disgraceful episode in which no one yet has been called to acount...although the Brits have attempted to bring blair to court.... and will continue to want justice for all those needlessly murdered.. Bush it seems will never be held to account not even impeached it was also the start of the so called Arab spring.. which turned into being more of a sunny afternoon than than spring.. Arab or other wise.... nothing changes... just the faces and the bank accounts

After 2000, the whole world has changed. I can't think of anything that has really changed that much in the past 10 years, world wide. The entertainment industry giving women their just desserts (Bill Cosby, Harvey Winestein, etc..) caused some changes in the TV and Movie business.
If I'm not mistaken, this discussion board started in 2010 so whatever the changes are (both mouse and Annie gave good ones) has been talked about here.
Two of the worst things would be the increase in gun murders and the election of Donald Trump.

My immediate reaction is that it's exclusively focused on America rather than taking a wider perspective. Yes, many of the things they mention are true but they apply to other countries besides the US. No mention of Brexit; no mention of Macron or the Gilet Jaunes; no mention of the AFD, Viktor Orhan or similar types of populism; no mention of the way in which anti-Semitism became respectable and acceptable in the political left; no mention of the climate change activists; no mention of the growing disillusionment with democracy; no mention of the growing influence of religious extremism on society; no mention of the growing homophobia; no mention of the increasing authoritarianism of political correctness; no mention of the way transgender people are seeking to impose their ideas on society. And so on and so on. To me it's too parochial in its view of the world and needed a much wider focus on a greater range pf issues and a wider geographical sweep.

dex wrote …..After 2000, the whole world has changed. is that when the twin towers were downed ?.……….actually it didn't change the whole world... it may have changed the American view of the world......and it may have changed the way the world viewed America ….but it didn't change the woeld for better or worse
agree with lin theres a considerable amount of really important world issues that have not been included.. the people of Hong Kong for instance.. who would have guessed that so few would take on the might of the Chinese state and not be crushed in an instant

The point is to jump in and add your own opinions of changes ... where ever they may be taking place.
We started this forum 10 years ago, so that helps give me a way to measure the time that has passed in relation to change.
Think about it and add some things you, personally, find different.

Beth, I wasn't in any way trying to diss the US or Americans. I was just making a point about its focus. Funnily enough we get months of coverage on UK TV of the Presidential campaigns. Yet I STILL come across Americans who don't know what Brexit is or what the EU is. But like I said I had no intention of trying to get in a dig.

Thatos what it's here for. There's not much we can hope to second guess til we see what's going to happen with Trump. It looks doubtful the U.S. will progress very much in any area until he's gone. I could be wrong, but it would be by happenstance if anything good happens politically with him in office. I'll project that Harry and Meghan get along just fine in the rest of the world, so the Brits need to relax and accept reality. In the entertainment industry, film and TV will become closer so that it's hard to tell when one ends and the other begins. Who can think of some more changes to come?

I can't speak for the press, but what worries me - and I've driven extensively in Europe where they drive on the 'other side' of the road - is this habit of US drivers getting it very wrong. Why can't they get it right?

Beth wrote Why doesn't The Daily Mail put up one for the U. K., or world wide if they choose?"""""
the daily mail is a tabloid only read by people who cannot think for them selves and understand nothing.. so an item such as this would be far too much to think about by the thiko lower orders ...
""""Is it possible they'd like to drum up squabbles between N. America and the U. K.?"""
not sure who supposed to drum up squabbles and disorders ""politico""" or the paper of the great unwashed the daily mail
