As for the cops, well. You and I have different opinions on the police, Menantol. I see them as the protectors of the authorities and the enemies of the people; you see them as protectors of the people. By analogy you could say that I see the police and their general behaviour rather in terms of how you see people who wish to repeal the Second Amendment. To me the police represent the forces of repression and try to deny liberty to the citizens just as you regard gun control as being an act of repression and a denial of your liberty. I see the police not as protectors of the people but rather as enforcers of the law, quite a different thing. Well, if the Second Amendment WAS repealed then the police would have to uphold that law. I've had plenty of bad experiences with the police and hardly any good ones. And you might like to ask yourself why it is that out of 1000 shootings a year by police what is the conviction rate for officers? The police 'enforce' the law but they also routinely break it. They literally get away with murder and brutality. Fundamentally the whole problem is the way they are ordered to behave. The government (local and national) uses them as 'army light.' They are there to suppress and oppress the people. I doubt if you have ever had reason to fear the police; to look nervously around when you hear or see them; and that's NOT because I've been breaking the law (funnily enough, in the days when I did there were less cops about and I never got caught) but because I've SEEN them behaving badly. I've SEEN cops beating up unarmed people who were doing NOTHING; in the days when I was a druggie it was a police officer who SOLD me the drugs which he'd held back from 'confiscated' stashes from drug dealers. And so on and so on. When you live in a world where you have to look out for yourself the police are the LAST people you're going to turn to.

Police are comprised of all sorts of people. However, it is rare for police to be able to protect people as they usually arrive long after the event is over. They collect evidence, possibly arrest people, control the crime scene.

I agree with you Men .. that is what the police were founded for [and yes there will be those who abuse their position] the police are not there to protect any thing[property] or any body[person] in real terms .. they are there to enforce the law...the strong arm of the law and they were founded to enforce the law.. to ensure the kings peace .. that is their remit to enforce the law of the land that society has moved on and life has become more complex is irelevent in that as far as I am aware the remit is exactly the same at one time UK police were actually non political.now they are used to political advantage in certain by politos at no time have they been protectors of people.. they are protectors of law nothing more nothing less..
