Somebody sent me this and I thought some of you might be interested. No idea about where to put it so I'll try here. This is about The Economist and their annual predictions for the coming year. This time around they used Tarot cards to try to see what 2017 will bring. www.economist.com/beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2016/11/the-economist-the-world-in-2017-cover-leaked-ominous-nuclear-death-on-tarot-cards-3441270.htmlThe cards they drew were the tower, judgement, the world, the hermit, death, the magician, the wheel of fortune, and the star This next one is not the Economist site but a tarot site with somebody trying to figure out what the cards that were drawn show. Scroll down along the left side for their interpretation. https://www.reddit.com/r/occult/comments/5e03ry/world_in_2017_issue_of_the_economist_uses_tarot/ I wouldn't put any trust in this but it's interesting to see what's being talked about. Comments welcome.

I don't read The Economist but maybe I should. Looks like it has a straight shoot to the underbelly of the nationalist movement. Might be a good idea to be informed.

Perhaps the Tower is a reference to Trump Tower? MIKE MIKE MIKE, I am surprised at you, are you letting your true colours shine through? When I feel like a good laugh I login to Vendetta, and laugh my head off at the contents of the posts. It seems as if everyone has reverted to their primary school days. Really.!!! By Golly, now I can get an inkling as to why countries reach the stage of warfare with one another, it seems as if people lose there cool so easily. I think I have mentioned before that it would be wise to start our children's schooling by teaching them how to master the vices, especially Rage or should I say Anger. We are all supposed to be sensible adults.

Perhaps the Tower is a reference to Trump Tower? Hi Mike Marshall, more like the Tower of Babel, and we know the thinking of the people then. It looks as if we haven't learned much in the intervening years.. There is nothing but upheaval everywhere, that would be right. The end result will be catastrophe when the stars fall from the sky at the end of the world as prophesied in the Bible. It certainly doesn't look good.

I think the meaning of The Tower is a little more complex. Isn't it generally interpreted as chaotic change?

Hi Beth, what do you think the Tower of Babel is all about? God confused the language of the people so that they wouldn't understand each other, because they had the temerity to try to reach for the the Heavens. I'm sure that brought about chaotic change.

I think you're right, Lassie. The symbolism for The Tower in the Ryder Waite deck is probably drawn from the Tower of Babel. The general definition is ... The Tower shows a tall tower pitched atop a craggy mountain. Lightning strikes and flames burst from the building’s windows. People are seen to be leaping from the tower in desperation, wanting to flee such destruction and turmoil. The Tower signifies darkness and destruction on a physical scale, as opposed to a spiritual scale. The Tower itself represents ambitions built on false premises. The lightning bolt breaks down existing forms in order to make room for new ones. It represents a sudden, momentary glimpse of truth, a flash of inspiration that breaks down structures of ignorance and false reasoning. Notice the lightning bolt is oriented left to right (from the perspective of the card), from heaven to earth, and from Spirit to material. The falling figures correspond to the chained prisoners in the Devil card. They fall headfirst, because the sudden influx of spiritual consciousness represented by the lightning flash completely upsets all our old notions about the relations between subconsciousness and self-consciousness. The flames are actually the Hebrew yods. There are 22 flames, representing the 22 Major Arcana. The gray clouds are the clouds of misfortune that rain on everyone indiscriminately. The ruling planet of this card is Mars.

Do you read Tarot cards, Beth?

I can but haven't for a long time. Hi Beth, I bought myself a pack years and years ago with the intention of learning, but never ever got around to it. Aren't you ever tempted to make use of it when you have a situation in your life that you just don't know which way to go? By the way I wasn't allowed to see whatever it was that you wanted to show me. I don't know why this happens. The bookmark is there with a blue question mark in the centre. This is all I ever seem to see: ?

Every once in a long long while I drag them out. I have several different decks, just as collectibles. By this time, I've learned to look at things from different points of view without the Tarot to give a sense of direction. I'm not sure what you're talking about in regard to "show me". I only posted a quick description of The card and added a copy of the Rider Waite tower for reference purposes. That, and the other cards they used in the 2017 layout, are so obvious they don't need a lot of explanation.

Hi Beth, It would have been nice If the Taro card spread could have been translated for those who do not know. I am unable to use links so am unable to find out for myself, and I am interested in the interpretation.

Are you able to go to your profile and choose the edit option, then Settings, then the pull down menu for themes? If so, choose cJ's Tarot for your theme and save changes at the bottom of that page. Then click on Home to get the new theme to come up. You should be able to get most of the card meanings from there.
I'll give you the description of the cards drawn by The Economist magazine but not the whole deck! At least not at this time.
