OK. How about Robert Redford? He did play "Death" on the Twilight Zone. I had no idea he was that popular in the 50s He was very young on that episode; one of the very memorable originals.

I know Bogart (from Casablanca and The African Queen) and Henry Fonda from some of the old b+w films that I can't recall offhand, and I think that William Holden was in Sunset Boulevard and Bridge on the River Kwai, but I can't see them playing Nazis. Maybe Alan Ladd.

I do not believe this country portrayed German types as heroes in war movies. Our entertainment industry has always been influenced by jewish executives.

I never heard of The Young Lions, but Brando sure looks menacing in the picture! (But he could play almost anything and was good enough to take a darker role.) Did Dean Martin play a Nazi as well? Maybe an inebriated one?

I wouldn't even call him an actor. He was the same in every movie.

No doubt. That's serious type casting. We're all in trouble when the people are judged by the color of their skin and their smiles. You are one hundred percent right IMO Dex, I was brought up to be be polite and respectful as my children were. That is how we should all be. What that fellow had to say is all Hogwash as far as I am concerned.

This was all important to Hitler as he tried to produce a master race. Amazing.!!! the head measuring etc etc was to mark out racial inferiors..and sub social groups..quite often the mentally and physically disabled groups were used for experimentation the the insanity of master race experiment turned out to be a disaster..it was cruel on those who took part the blonde blued eyed teenagers set up to do their duty and produce the next generation......a cruel regime set up for babies[many having long term mental damage]..it all backfired very visually ...theres a silence on what happened to so many of these children as for blonde and blue eyes...we know the Nazis were not blonde and blue eyed..some were some were not a good look at the inner circle of national socialism and blonde blues eyes doesn't leap out..hitler..Gobels..Hydriech ..Himler etc etc two who could be said to be fair were Goering and Rommel then there are the masses and masses of photos of the German army ..the SS and the Gestapo a gain there no great predominance of blonde blue eyed a child who sets out as blonde and blue eye..often ends up with light brown or mousey hair and grey eyes

We got some US films, well, a lot, but we also had a large number of British war films. Occasionally they might have a token American actor or two in them - as a means of appealing to the American market. One of my favourites was Ice Cold in Alex, great film.

I do not remember British war films being in the theaters but I DO remember themn on TV in the 60s and 70, usually late at night or weekend afternoons. They were rather dated, but good movies over all.
