It occurred to me you probably wouldn't remember all that much about it. The 80s and 90 were not bad .. not bad at all. AIDS was the horror story of those decades. We had no clue what was to come. Unfortunately, I feel a little like that now. Eye to sky, ear to ground .. bad news ahead. Actually in the 80s it was herpes.

I think that was the beginning of the public realization of AIDS. It changed things considerably in regard to tolerance for drugs and sexual promiscuity.

Actually in the 80s it was herpes. Didn't Rock Hudson die in the mid '80s? I think that was the beginning of the public realization of AIDS. It changed things considerably in regard to tolerance for drugs and sexual promiscuity. We moved to Boston when I was about three, and I remember going to the Gay Pride Parade in Boston every year with my family. At some point I understood that AIDS was some sort of terrible disease. I always remember it being around but learned of it in the context of the gay community. (We lived in the South End of Boston, where my parents' home is. It is the hub of the gay community in Boston, and was probably to only gay community in Boston at the time.)

He did, but HIV had just been discovered and it still was poorly understood. The AIDS scare did not come until much later. I'm glad that's over.

Of course it's ongoing, but they have made real progress.

It's very uncomfortable. It is becoming more of a mandate than an election. True, and the media owns it. For the public, it's almost addictive. Not healthy all the way around. It IS addictive. What will become of Matt Drudge after November? There is always news but not always the kind he can play around with like the elections.
