Hi Kronks, Does it have something to do with the roots of a bad tooth. I no longer remember my mathematics, so I can't give you the correct answer.

Hi Kronks, Does it have something to do with the roots of a bad tooth. I no longer remember my mathematics, so I can't give you the correct answer. Yes it is to do with weights and measures, 4840 yards is an acre, and a bad tooth aches so it is also an acher! men an tol go it right of course! smiley 1

I hesitate to offer an answer to this old riddle, but the obvious answer is, “because it is an acre.” Yes that is correct, but not so obvious to the children of today who only know the metric system of measurement as oppose to the far superiour (imo) imperial system. The imperial system is much more "human" albeit the maths is a lot harder!

I did think it was the mathematical amount, but I couldn't remember what it was. Sometimes my memory works, sometimes it doesn't. Thanks for giving the answer.!!!

I do remember, 16 ounces makes 1lb 14 lbs make 1 stone 8 stone makes 1 hundredweighy20 whatever makes 1 ton. I think I might have got it all wrong? Please correct me, so that I will at least remember something. I know my weight has always been around 8 & a half stone and my height 5 ft 3 inches. Ofcourse that is all changed too.

I was thinking along the line of a root which is a a measurement too though I can't remember where it fits in.
